If you are planning to go to Lisbon, you should not miss the Belém district with some of the city’s most iconic monuments.
The district is located in the western part of Lisbon on the river Targus, was once a home for the shipyard and docks of Lisbon.
Jerónimos Monastery
This amazing 16th century building, and UNESCO World Heritage site should definitely be on your to-do-list in Lisbon. It is good to go here in the morning as the ques will be long during the day.
Ajuda Botanical Garden
This beautiful garden is located just before the National Palace, and if you make a visit there you should not miss this place. Built in the 18th century, it is a perfect location for a stroll in a Royal Garden.
National Palace of Ajuda
This restored Royal Palace is a mixture of the Baroque Neoclassic style. It was in use until 1910 when Portugal became a republic.
It has a nice tour thru most of the palace rooms with good displays and information, that gives you an insight to 19th century royal life.
Royal Treasury Museum
The Royal Treasury Museum was built in 2018 especially to host the Portuguese Crown Jewels, and have a beautiful display and the building itself is worth visiting.
The exhibition is in a three floor vault in the middle of the building. It occupies the entire west wing of the National Palace, and should not be missed.
Public transport
By Tram: E15 to Mosteiro dos Jeórnimos
From here you can take busses up to the National Palace, but most locations are close enough to walk.
